My child has decided to go, what now?

Book flights, bus or train tickets.

Go ahead and book bus, train or flights to Baltimore, Maryland (Elementary School) or Round Rock, Texas (Middle School K-8) before ticket prices go up.

Where are the National Elementary (K-6) Championship?

Columbus, Ohio. April 26-29, 2024

What is the requirement to go to Nationals?

There is no requirement to go to Nationals. It is open to all scholastic chess players.

Do I have to have a minimum rating to go to Nationals?

No, you can be unrated and still compete at Nationals.

How much does it cost to go?

Essentially, you have to pay for airfare, hotel, food and registration fee. Chessquarter provides a service of coach which will be an additional fee. Typically, parents organize fundraising to offset the cost of taking a weekend trip to Columbus, Ohio.

What if I can’t afford to go?

Please reach out to the organizers from your school and request a scholarship. Scholarships are for players only.

When should I get there?

The tournament starts on Friday at 1 pm. Most families choose to fly on Thursday but you can also come on Friday morning.

When do I have to decide if I want to go?

You can decide to go at pretty much any time. However, if you are interested in off-setting cost you need to decide asap to help organize fundraising efforts.
